project bookshelf

ever since erin posted about the credenza that turned a hot red, i have been thinking about our living room bookshelf. it needs some color love. not sure what color though. our living room is already full of solid colors - green couch, big orange (like rusty, dusty orange) chair, and ivory ikea chair. and a big ol' patterned rug that i can't decide if i like. here is the bookshelf below. the walls are a simple creamy white, we are renters and are not sure we want to paint this room. any color suggestions for the book shelf?
